Weekly Prompt Story: Wings

http://oneadayuntilthedayidie.com/?p=31953

My Wings
By Christopher Munroe

I’ll fly as close to the sun as I fucking please.

My wings are made of sturdier stuff than those of Icarus, and I am a man of vision, scope and ambition. I shan’t be scared off by tales of lesser men and their failings.

For I am not those lesser men.

I’ll fly to the very sun, pluck it from its perch in the heavens and bring it with me back to Earth, that I might present it to you as a token of my love.

I defy God itself to stop me!

I’ll see you upon my return…

Weekly Prompt Story: What I Learned From Milli Vanilli

http://podcasting.isfullofcrap.com/2012/07/08/weekly-challenge-324-rain/

What I Learned From Milli Vanilli
By Chris Munroe

Milli Vanilli sang that you should blame things on the rain.

I’d thought this was a cop-out, a way of avoiding responsibility.

But as I’ve grown, I’ve realized they’re right. Some things in life are beyond your control, they happen TO you, not because of you.

And at times like that, the best you can do is blame it on the rain and hope for better next time.

Though I can’t help wondering…

Stripped of their Grammy, tour cancelled, Milli Vanilli were the laughingstock of the music industry. A punchline, forevermore.

On that day, who or what did they blame?

Just Because You CAN do Something, Doesn't Mean You Should

They called me mad to even consider it, but I’ve NEVER backed down from a bad idea, and so the work began.

Trillions spent, and armies working years on end. Lasers carving away tonnes of rock, rock taken out to sea.

I never lost faith the work would be completed.

But in dark times I wondered if I’d be alive to see...

And now, when I look out at where the Rocky Mountains used to be, I see an enormous statue of myself in repose.

And when I do, I can’t help but miss the skyline the way it was…
