Weekly Prompt Story: Mirror

Mirrors
By Christopher Munroe

I’ve replaced the ceiling of my bedroom with mirrors.

The walls too.

My quilt and sheet set are now made of reflective material, and I’ve covered what furniature I have with mirrors as well. This way, wherever I look, I can’t escape the vision of myself, reflected back at myself, all the way to infinity.

It’s been suggested that this will drive me mad, and it might. There are days where I feel like it’s driven me mad already…

Nonetheless, it is necessary.

Something, after all, had to be done, to compensate for my own lack of capacity for self-reflection…

Mirror Mirror
By Chris Munroe

I don’t know if I’m the evil twin.

I mean, I don’t feel evil and I have all my memories from before the teleportation accident, so that should make me the original, right?

On the other hand, does anybody self-identify as evil?

And my twin did also claim to be the original. Though now he’s dead. Tell you what, I’ll let you cast the tie-breaking vote.

Sound good to you?

Promise me you won’t scream for help, and I’ll take the gag out of your mouth so you can tell me which one of us you think’s the evil twin...

I've Redecorated

My room is now a mirror motif. Walls and ceiling are now giant mirrors, as are the closet doors.

I’ve stripped carpet bare, painted the floor silver, and buffed it to a reflective gleam.

The furniture’s covered in mirrorshard, and even my beddings are a reflective nylon material.

With lights on (I’ve tampered with the switch such that they can’t be turned off) no matter where I stand all I see is myself reflected back, onward to infinity.

I’ve done this to see how long it takes to drive me mad.

It’s been nine seconds.

I profoundly regret my decision.

The Hall of Mirrors

The young man stepped into the hall of mirrors, and there he discovered himself, made twisted and perverse.

Misshapen and grotesque, his faults writ large across the cool glass pane, mistakes taking up his whole field of view. The visage that greeted him horrified him, broke his spirit utterly. He shattered into fragments, and the bits were blown to the four winds, never to be seen again.

The reflection stepped down from the mirror, exited the hall, and went out into the world, reflection taking the place of man.

It was surprised to find that few could tell the difference.
