And then it was Canada Day...

…and across the country we celebrated. From sea to shining sea, we stood on guard for thee, and for one day out of the year we were at our most Canadian.

I was no different, I can happily admit I was as caught up in the magic of what formerly was Dominion Day as anyone. The sound of the crowd has an effect on me that is both well documented and undenied. Over the course of Canada day I did all of the following:

I apologized. Constantly.

I promised I would do things to help the environment.

I did not do things to help the environment.

I was a smug dick to Americans, particularly on the subjects of health care and the democratic process...

…and, through it all, the hits of Kim Mitchell played in my headphones. On repeat, again and again, to set the mood.

Because we, as a nation, are never more Canadian than when we are listening to Kim Mitchell.

No other country would ever in a million years put up with that….

Unmasked

Too many secrets had escaped the agency, and everyone knew they had a mole within their ranks. But the council was at a loss. Whoever was leaking documents, they were covering their tracks too well.

So Agent Seven organized a party.

Space was prepared, and everyone with security clearance was gathered in what they thought was a simple social.

But Agent Seven had his own agenda.

He confidently walked out into the ballroom and, one by one, started punching the guests in the back of the head.

“Sorry…” One of them eventually mumbled.

And so, the Canadian spy was unmasked.

Canada Day

I was visited by three ghosts.

The first: a moderating influence between two great powers, struggling to make peace in the world. He taught me to see all sides of a conflict, and communicate honestly.

The second: an expansive, open spirit, welcoming all to her. She taught me to open my own heart to new people and new experiences.

The third spirit was vague and indistinct, a blur of possibility untapped. I asked it it’s nature.

“Whatever you make of me.” It replied.

I awoke, and knew the true spirit of the holiday.

Happy Canada Day, god bless us everyone!
